Meditation: my doubt

One way to deal with not writing the wrong information down in Decartes book is to not write anything that he doubt on. Decarte purpose to reject anything that he finds with doubt. But I was wondering how he's going to do that because not everything is without doubt

"..........i should withhold my assent no less carefully from opinions that are not completely certain and indubitable than I would from those that are patently false..............it will suffice for the rejection of all of these opinions, if I find in each of them some reason for doubt."

hey liz
so what he is basically trying to say is that he will only right the truth right, but how does he know what the truth is if he is still looking for it? how can he say this is true and this other idea is not. how does he know that that first idea is true?? in some of the other parts he tries to develop a method of taking peoples ideas and getting the information out and considering it to be true, when he had said previously that he only trusted himself with his ideas. i think. Descartes is lost with his search because he contradicts himself very often.

Hi Walter, by the way, liz didn't write this, Me, Ally, did, read the bottom of the name, dumbass, ok,
anyway,
you are right "how does he know if the first idea is true?" The thing is he doesn't, and the first idea is not always going to be true, the only thing he said in this passage was that he tries to rule out the things that is not true, but ruling out doubtful statements. Also you are right about him being so contradecting of himself~!

Hmmm i am kind of agreeing with the two of you. I am starting to believe that Decartes is compleately lost. He contradicts himself so much. Decartes should just put more thoughts to his writting and focused on one category. I believe that will make it easier for him and for us.
Ex.* Decartes is so confusing that got Walter losing his focused and did not who he was writting to.

What i don't get is that if Decarte saying that he have doubt about a lot of his work and trys really hard to limit down mistakes, then why:
In one part of the book, Decarte mention that because god is such a perfect being, so he created human beings that have senses, so using our senses that god gave us, must means that we have perfect judgements.
