descartes

...one cannot conceive a thing so well and make it ones own when one learns if from someone else as one can when one discovers it from one self. this is so true in this matter that although i have often explained some of my opinions to people with good minds, who , while i spoke to them, seemed to understand them quite distinctly, nevertheless, when they repeated them, i noticed that they had almost always changed them in such a way that i could no longer acknowledge them as mine.

Descartes is basically trying to say that even though some human being might be smarter them him. when he tries to convey his knowledge to them, they only get an idea from it, but not his full meaning, which in turn changes as that other person tries to pass it on.

Mr. Medrano i think what decartes tried to say is that one can't think is more smarter than the other, because they are learning form each other. If the person learns it on its own or understand it, than that will be a different situation. Many seem to read Decsrtes but they don't tried to see that there is a lot meaning of his work. Many people read a lot books, but they dont tried to understand what the author is trying to teach you. Imagine if you were in Decartes situation, how would you feel?

In this world, when we are trying to pass down ideas and thoughts, not everyone will get the same translating for the same sentence. Also passing down the idea will eventually alter the meaning due to the fact that not everyone will get the same meaning out of the same sentence.

i understand that however he still seems to rely on other for proof. he tests his friends and people he doesn't really know as well as people that dont like him. so how can he say that the infor he got from his test is accurate???
